ahhh, I haven't totally forgotten to update, but sort of. We have just had a lot going on as of late, and I seem to neglect this thing first and foremost... which I guess is appropriate, seeing as how it doesn't screech and howl at me if I forget to do something.

speaking of the howler monkey, he is doing well... if he is able to continue napping through the fucking ruckus that's going on outside it'll be a miracle. Garbage trucks that come EVERY DAY... I don't know why, but not only do they come EVERY DAY they make a huge clatter and then proceed to honk their horns. Makes me crazy.

Our household will be expanding shortly (no, no ... not in that way). Two of Aaron's nephews are going to be staying with us for a little while, so I imagine they'll be popping up in the pictures pretty frequently. They are 5 and 8, and I am really excited that we'll get to test out how it is to have 3 kids... my dream! I have to quit my nanny gig, but that's ok, and I will still be watching my godson for a little while so we'll make do ok.

oh, and I submitted that picture, so I hope you fuckers know what you're talking about! I want to win that contest so bad... not because I need validation that Nolan is beautiful, because like any mother I KNOW my kid is cuter than yours (except for yours... and yours... and of course yours!) but because I am craving a trip to NYC like you wouldn't believe. If I was cold and callous we would up and move there as soon as I was done with school, but I can't take Nolan away from the family... but I do miss me some NYC. I will live there one day. some day.

experimenting with chewing... he loves his peas and carrots, proof that my genes did get in that kid!

I love his chew face

Hair! and Sitting!

The last two weeks his hair has really come in a lot, I know it's still not much, but it's more than he's ever had! (except for the old man patch he was born with on the back of his head :-D)

and in the last few days he has been able to chill by himself sitting up like a big boy... yay!

this pic?

I can't and won't submit this one... can't because it has to be taken w/in in the last month, and he clearly looks different now than he did there, as the age limit is 6-48 months. He was barely 3 mos old here. Plus I don't think this picture does him justice... do you?

as for the bathtub picture also suggested... I don't know. I'm not feeling photo number 2 either, they want the cutest babies... I would think they want smiling pictures... here is the info on the contest.

if you click on official rules, it says it cannot be the product of a professional photographer, so these are out:

Regis and Kelly

I'm going to go ahead and send in a picture of Nolan for the Regis and Kelly cutest baby contest. (God how pathetic AM I?) Anyway, as always, wanting to make everything democratic... would you vote for the pic you think I should enter? (and if you don't like these, feel free to post suggestions in the guestbook.)

Honestly, none of these pictures seem *just* right.

Bullet Points

*I'm such a pansy wartface when it comes to voicing my opinion to my hairdresser. I went today to get a partial foil and trim, and when I left the salon it looked ok. When I got home and undid the zig zag part (*hate*) and redid my normal side part, I noticed that she left HUGE GAPING HOLES OF BLACK ROOTS. Not good. I normally have a period of self loathing when I leave the salon... hating the way my hair looks for a bit of time until I get over myself and realize it looks fine. That's normal.

But I don't usually leave and then have a moment of rage so intense I want to punch my own self in the face. *sigh* and now I've got to call and ask her to fix it and I'm borderline diahhrea over the whole damn thing. But something needs to be done about these roots. It looks terrible.

*I am exhausted today, thanks in part to Nolan fussypants who was resisting our sleep training last night (aha! but I prevailed, and he slept till 7am!) and Aaron snoresalot... I almost threatened divorce last night when he wouldn't turn over for the umpteenth time.

*I am knee deep in the application process for the teaching program at a local university, and the paperwork and bullshit you have to deal with is so staggering it's driving me up a friggin' wall. Seriously.

*The weather is killing my nose. It's sore, and itchy and dry... if I'm not sneezing, I'm blowing my nose. If I'm not blowing my nose I'm scratching it.

*I hate my math class. It's called mathematics for elementary teachers. What part of that title would lead you to believe we are supposed to be coming up with complicated formulas and figuring out in depth patterns that make a 28 year old's head spin? How the heck will that help me teach a 7 year old how to add and subtract? I sit in the back with a bunch of likeminded girls and we bitch about this fact all through class. What kills me is this shit is boring. BO-RING. And some of the people in my class act like it's fucking fascinating and dissect and discuss each problem and the way to get each problem down to the last friggin' fraction. And their enthusiasm... aye yi yi.

*speaking of my math class, in it there is a girl who shaves her eyebrows and paints them on ever so fakely, A girl who resembles a rabbit, A gay man named jakkal (only spelled the correct way), a teacher whose voice startlingly reminds me of Jennifer Grey in dirty dancing, A girl with a teeny tiny head on a very long and willowy neck, Lots of older ladies getting their extra credits in (a requirement of the state) who work my nerves, an asian kid with short spiky black hair, except for the one 8-10" long chunk just to the left of his forehead that is bleached orangey blond, and two girls who are painfully thin and trendy... complete with extremely low rise jeans, belly baring hoodies, perfect tans, fur trimmed uggs, flat ironed hair, flawless makeup, acrylic nails and trucker hats... who remind the rest of us that we are not 18 anymore.

no pics today because I am lazy.

I don't know why but I am so damn tired today. Was in bed and asleep by 10 I think, I know I was up for a bit around 330 w/ fussypants, giving him a bottle. But I woke for the day at 630 and feel soooooo exhausted.

I hate that.

I'm googling all over the place trying to find clips of the golden globes last night... anyone know of a good site for that?

started back at the gym last night. My endurance is so damn pathetic now, it's disgusting. 1/2 an hour, barely 160 cals burned and I am sooo-ore. But it's a start. I am going to go tonight too. (after I have a nice mid afternoon espresso pick-me-up.)

We are on week two of sleep training, he actually slept through the night the night before last (woohoo!) He's still taking one bottle in the middle of the night most nights, so I'm not ready to cut out that feed yet.

other than that, all is peachy here. missed the golden globes in favor of wife swap (and I don't regret that choice, I really don't.) I should get going and actually get something done around the house before Nolan gets up though.

found this pic again the other day... forgot all about it, LOVE IT!

So Cool

You guys are so cool, It's been so awesome reading the comments in the guestbook, I love it!!!! I love comments in general, but when I read other blogs/journals I am TERRIBLE about commenting! I so appreciate everyone who has left a comment, I will be checking out all webpages linked, I love a new read.

If you haven't delurked, leave a mssg in the guestbook, it's national delurking week! :-)

There were a few questions in the mix...

Carol asked what classes I am taking. I am currently finishing up my prerequisites and applying to Central Washington University's elementary teaching program. If all goes as planned, I will start this fall... I was 10 credits... TEN MEASLY CREDITS short from being able to apply last year. I didn't want to go to school during my first few months with nolan (not that it would have mattered, the classes are specialized and not offered year round), so I had to put it off for a year. *sigh* so now I should be 31 when I graduate.

Thanks everyone for the compliments on the journaling and on Nolan. I think he's damn cute, but I guess I'm biased ;-)

Since he's almost 6.5 mos old, I'll give a state of the union of sorts of what he's up to.

*He is now ticklish. Under the armpits, under the chin, sides of his neck and the soles of his feet.
*He rolls all over the living room now, sometimes it shocks me how far he'll go.
*He loves solids, despite the faces he makes in the videos!
*he's had carrots, green beans, peas, sweet potatoes, yams, bananas, baby yogurt, oatmeal, rice cereal, pears, squash and avocado and so far not a problem with any of them.
*he's also now exclusively formula fed, last breastmilk bottle was today.
*He sleeps in his own room, and is learning at the moment to put himself to sleep.
*He LOOOOVES the cats. But they hate and despise him.
*He thinks mommy and daddy are the shit.
*He thinks he is just the coolest thing ever riding in the cart like a big boy, and in his stroller w/o the carseat.
*He's starting to throw tantrums... one might say he is sort of like his mama that way.
*His favorite toys of the moment are his soft blocks, his kitty cat, and the suction cup toy he thrashes in the videos.

And now an update on me, I don't know if I mentioned it before but I'm nannying in the mornings for 3 kids. I basically get them up, dressed and ready for school, as well as make breakfast, do the dishes etc. I'm there maybe an hour and half at the most. In the afternoons I watch my Godson... this has been great for so many reasons. He cracks me up, and watching him and Aaron play video games together is so cute. He really loves nolan too, and nolan is just absolutely fascinated with him.

I cut out sweets (technically this should go in the weight loss journal, but soon enough.) a week before new years, and have stuck to it. Each day the craving gets a little better. I started Atkins this week. Shhh. I don't want to hear it. I need to get motivated. In the past, my motivation has been seeing the weight loss and feeling it. Eventually it gets to be like a drug where I need to work out and eat healthy... I'm trying to harness it again, and get motivated. I am doing pretty good on it, and am PRAYING it stays that way.

I'm tired, it's 9:30 and I have a brutal class at the gym in 12 hours. Off to bed I go, but here are a few pics of the boy...

studly wudly sitting like a big boy in the cart. *sniff* where's my tiny little baby at?

Hmm... which toy to put in my mouth?

Wednesday already?

Seems like the days are just zooming by, nothing really to report. We've started some sleep training here because I am sick and damn tired of getting up not only sometimes twice in one night to feed, but about 6-7 times for pacifier replacement. It's about time we quit swaddling as well, so no more swaddle and once the pacifier falls out, it's out. Tonight is night 2. He's been down 3 hours and hardly a peep. The real fun should happen around 11:30 or so when he wakes up for his midnight feed, and when I refuse to swaddle him or put his paci back... well last night I was up for a good 2 hours or so. (no he didn't cry the whole time, on and off... and eventually fell asleep and then just whined in his sleep.)

anyway, have you seen that new mtv show 'there and back: Ashley parker Angel'? I love me some celebreality, and this is about one of the members from O-town (now defunct boy band) and how he's broke and working his way back. It's pretty good... except that they do this really cheesy ass thing by having a freeze frame, and he comes out of it and narrates part of the show. Dumb and cheesy. And less believable. But I'll still watch it.

Anyway, here are some videos of the babe, I've also been taking some 'artsy' shots, trying to perfect the art of non-flash photos.

He had rolled himself all the way across the living room and was exploring

Aaron and I laughed till we cried over this one... maybe because we're the mommy and the daddy, but the look on his face was hilarious.

oops! no he doesn't sleep through the night yet! He gets up anywhere from 3 hours after I lay him down to 8 hours... it really depends on his mood, but he's up at least 2 times at night and sometimes 3.

Thursday, January 05, 2006

oh yeah

Mojodiva requested Nolan's sleep schedule... on an ideal day we are up around 7, first nap is at 9:30 (anywhere from an hour and a half or so to two hours) then another nap at 2 for a good hour at least. Bed time is 7pm regardless of naps, though there are times when it's not possible to have him in bed at 7 (holidays etc) and there are times when he's determined to be asleep before 7.

I never put him to bed before 6pm... earliest ever was 6:15 but that was right after the holidays and his schedule had gone to shit for over 3 days.

Mama and Nolan on christmas day

Grandma and Grandpa spoiled us! (those aren't all of nolan's, we were sitting sort of in the middle of the gift pile.)

Christmas threw up in my living room.

Mr. Happy tooth.

"this is why they had me isn't it?"

Nolan's first christmas present! All he wanted to do was chew on it.

and chew he did!

I feel more scatterbrained now than I ever did when I was pregnant. Yeah, I had moments of preggo brain where I couldn't remember things or got things mixed up or was just plain absent minded... but now it's difficult to wrap my brain around getting a schedule going, getting things done, etc. I start school tommorrow, and am at a loss how the heck I'm going to get my homework done and go to the gym (hello new years resolution!) and do the laundry, pick up the house, do my morning nanny job etc etc etc.

*sigh* so if entries here become scarce, well .. .you know why. Although doing an entry is a GREAT way to procrastinate, so maybe I'll get back to daily entries!

for now though, we wish you a happy new year and leave you with a few videos.

perhaps I should be slapped for this one... it's dark, but it's not really the 'visual' I was trying to capture. Any guesses what he was up to?
