Cousin Brothers

My nephew Luke is hanging out with us this weekend.  The boys are in hog heaven... Luke is their cousin and their best friend.  Miraculously they've gotten along pretty darn well... minimal bickering and mostly chill... most of the bickering has been between my two over who gets to sit next to Luke, who gets to play video games with him etc.

I took all three boys to value village this morning.  I told Aaron I was going to take them with me and he said "Are you crazy?"  But they were wiley and I needed to stop and see if they had boys size 7 jeans... incidentally, wtf... do you have any idea how many pairs of jeans the boys have ruined this year?  It's like they walk on their damn knees.   Between the knees ripping out and Nolan growing an inch or two in the past few months I've had to restock all of his jeans.  He's in 7s and Seth is a 5.  I am already formulating a plan for school shopping... I really like the old navy jeans, the slims especially.  I'm going to buy for whatever size Nolan is in August, and I'm going to buy like 7 or 8 pairs of the next size up. Luckily I have a nice stash of size 6s for Seth when the time comes.

Anyway, I digress.  They LOVED Value Village.  Nolan yelled when we walked in "THIS PLACE HAS EVERYTHING!"  As we were checking out, there was an older lady sitting on a bench in front of the check stand.  She was fairly large and possibly borderline crazy... she took out two tops from a bag and asked the boys which one they liked better.  One was a mint green monstrosity edged in lace.  It had to be homemade, because I cannot fathom what store in their right mind would sell that.  The other was a purple muumuu type garment with white flowers.  The boys debated the shirts ... "well, I like the stuff on the bottom of the green one." (Lace) "but the purple one has flowers."  They decided when we left that she should go with the green monstrosity.  It was very cute, but totally funny how they were so serious about it.

Aaron loves it when they lay with him like that. The weather around here has been so cold, wet and dreary... it looked like the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon. Untitled

Dentist

Today was the boys' annual dental check up.  No cavities - yay! It was also the first time that Sethy has been able to tolerate the x-rays for his back teeth.  Last time he cried and couldn't do it, and before that he wouldn't even try.  So that was very good, and both boys are to keep up with their good brushing habits... ie; mom and dad's good brushing habits.  Aaron and I still brush their teeth for them in the evenings, and most mornings... though Nolan brushes his own teeth in the A.M. during the week.

At what age will that stop?  I just don't trust them to do a good job honestly, and I've got shitty teeth... due mostly to genetics, but I want them to have good habits from the get go.

Nolan will have to go back at the end of May to have sealants put on his teeth and to see if the outer middle teeth on the bottom (on the opposite sides of the middle teeth) have caused any problems... as of now they are fine, but the permanent teeth are coming up and it looks as though there could be problems.  I really hope not, he is already fearful of the dentist, and this afternoon was teary and impatient during the end of the appointment.  I'm going to talk it up like it's a good/fun thing, and I likely won't accompany him to the back when they do it to see if he does better that way.

Anyhoo.  I'm so proud of them, they did great!
