So, I've been off since yesterday, and it's been pretty nice. Usually by the end of day 2 I am climbing the walls, ready to get back to work STAT. But this time, I'm looking forward to the next 3 days before work... I'm almost kind of sad that it's Friday night already. But I'm super glad that Aaron will be home to shoulder half the load the next couple of days.
Yesterday, I took the boys to see Toy Story 3... it was pretty good. They were riveted... and they did so dang good during the movie... no running around, no acting like wild animals. I was so proud.
Then they fell asleep on the way to Walmart... and I let them sleep for about 20 minutes after we got there. Not sure if it was that or the lunch of popcorn and m&ms that caused Nolan to completely meltdown, or if it was a cocktail of the two that did it. Without going into detail (because I really don't feel like rehashing it right now) it was the single worst trip to a public place I've had with him in at least a year... since WELL before he went on medication. It was complete with him screaming, crying, yelling the f-word, hitting me and throwing stuff out of the cart. We got the hell out of there as quickly as possible.
When we got home, he was sent to his room until dinner... about 4 hours or so... I had initially planned to have him eat in there, but he had sufficiently mellowed out and cleaned his room no less, so I let him join us for dinner and then watch a movie with us after dinner.
Today, we went to the boys' first dental appt... they did absolutely fantastic!!!! Considering how fast yesterday's trip to Walmart shit the bed, I was definitely nervous. They were nervous too, and a little apprehensive, but overall cooperative and polite and the hygenist told me that they were excellent... I was very very proud of them. They also got certificates for being members of the no cavity club, and their pictures taken with the certificates. It was great.
As a reward for such awesome behavior, and also because I hardly get a chance to take time off, just me and them, I took them to lunch at 'Old MacDonald's' as well. Then we went back to Walmart, for a redo, to see about Nolan spending his birthday money. I am pleased to report that it went very well... no screaming, no obscenities, no being confined to his room.
When we got home, my arms were killing me... seriously, wtf... I wake up and they hurt (from the shoulder to the fingers), I take ibuprofen, and it takes the edge off. Then when that wears off, they hurt like a bitch all over again. It was downright excruciating today, and I took a naproxen that we had in the cupboard, and promptly passed out. Sethy asked me to lay with him in my room, and we both passed out for about 2-3 hours. It was lovely.
I'm thinking the arm pain is carpal tunnel... but not sure if the pain would go all the way up to the shoulder. I will try sleeping with my braces on tonight, and see if I don't see an improvement tommorrow.
Nolan enjoying the movie
Maisie is considering taking up square dancing.
Ben is quickly tiring of my bullshit.
Nolan and Katy the wonder nurse
Such a trooper
Nolan kind of liked the water squirter and sucker.
I wish all of my dental exams went as quickly as theirs was, it was awesome. Also... have you SEEN pediatric dental x-rays? I'm kicking myself for not taking a better picture of them (you can kind of see it on the screen here) but they are a trip with the grown up teeth and the baby teeth.
Sethy and his nervous smile
I love how he looks totally stoked and happy, but was actually trying to get up constantly and kept pursing his lips so the hygenist had to keep saying "please open your mouth so I can count those shark teeth!"
Seth was watching Dora on the ceiling.
